Why use cast-in-place footings when you can use precast custom ones!
wide angle of a custom footing
Yes, you read that right! Cast-in-place footings are becoming a thing of the past. More and more projects are going with precast custom footings because of cost, efficiency, labour, and ground conditions.
Our Custom Footings Journey
Traditionally, our Tri-Span and CON/SPAN units were placed on piles or cast-in-place footings. Piles are expensive to install, and cast-in-place footings can lead to higher field costs and human error. We found there was a need for a product to combat poor soil conditions, intensive labour, and efficiency in the field. Our in-house engineers took the task at hand, and custom footings were created to solve that need.

The Story of Our 19-Metre Footings
Recently, we designed a 16-metre Tri-Span project. The problem? Poor soil conditions and piles drove up the project costs. Our team of in-house experts hand-crafted the solution: 19-metre custom footings that alleviated the need for piles and cast-in-place footings, AND could handle many ground conditions. They look pretty cool too!
Not All Footings Are Created Equal
Custom footings improve on productivity during installations, increase accuracy in project development, and are created in controlled environments, ensuring quality and performance is met. We can custom design footings in various shapes and dimensions, accounting for the many ground conditions we face in Ontario.
What’s the difference between Wet Cast vs Dry Cast?
Did you know we manufacture both wet cast and dry cast precast products? We sure do! However, do you know the difference between Wet Cast vs Dry Cast? We get asked that question A LOT! Let’s discuss.
Difference #1 – Curing Process
One difference between them is how they are cured. Additionally, a Wet Cast product is cured in its form (or mould), whereas a Dry Cast product is stripped from its jacket and then cured. Our HDPE-Lined Pipe(shown here for example) is a Wet Cast product.
Difference #2 – Strength
What are the strength differences? The answer is simple: there are no strength differences. Concast manufactures both to meet the same industry standards for precast products. Our Tri-Span products (shown here) are Wet Cast made and meet all requirements for a wide range of robust applications.
Difference #3 – Quality
Is there a quality difference? Absolutely not! The main difference between them is how they are manufactured. Both have the same quality you’ve come to expect from Concast products that you can depend on. Our reinforced concrete pipes (shown here) are manufactured both ways, depending on the size.
Wet Cast vs Dry Cast
Concast offers both Wet Cast and Dry Cast products. Although they may be made different in their manufacturing processes, both products are extremely durable and have the same quality levels.

No, you’re not seeing things! These elliptical pipes may look a little funny. That’s because they are manufactured for situations where there isn’t enough clearance for standard reinforced concrete pipe.
What’s so great about elliptical?
Elliptical pipe is unique, and we’re unique for making it! It’s available in equivalent circular diameters of 900 to 2100mm. Standard strength classes available: HE-I to HE-IV.
Need to customize your elliptical pipe? No problem! We can add tees and wyes, service connections, and much more to meet your exact specifications.
Benefits of elliptical pipe:
Elliptical pipe is just as robust as standard concrete pipe.
It has the same longevity as standard concrete pipe.
It can also be installed both horizontally and vertically.
We want to work with you!
If your project requires lower headroom and clearance, elliptical pipes may be the solution you need! Our team of engineers will work with you to bring your concept to reality.
Does your project require a bridge, but you’re not sure where to start in the design process? Have you considered a Tri-Span bridge? This efficient, cost-effective alternative to traditional full bridge construction is an excellent solution!
What is Tri-Span?
Our Tri-Span three-sided bridge structures are a highly effective and environmentally conscious solution for managing water flow in applications that involve streams, creeks, or other narrow waterways. Their design is well-suited for low cover applications and vertical clearance constraints.
Multiple Sizes and Customization
We can produce Tri-Span products in a wide-range of sizes, providing flexibility to accommodate different spans and various horizontal and vertical design requirements. We can also manufacture custom designs for more complex or challenging projects.
Earlier in September 2025, we completed a project for a bridge in Brampton; the cool part – it had an 18-metre span, our largest span yet! The project was made up of over 150 pieces, including spans, wingwalls, and custom footings. From engineering and design, to manufacturing and logistics, we have everything you need for your bridge.
18 metre Tri-Span installation in Brampton with wingwalls and custom footings.
Benefits of Tri-Span
Reduced costs compared to traditional full bridge construction
Time-efficient and quick installation
Rigid frame design distributes loads evenly across the structure
Built to last using high-quality precast concrete
Adaptability and customization – precast units can be adapted to curved or skewed alignments, with varying radii or skews to complement the natural flow of waterways or terrain

Have you heard the news? We’re your one-stop shop for all stormwater management solutions! That’s right, we have the complete package. If you’re looking for plastic, concrete, or hybrid stormwater management solutions, we’ve got you covered.
We Can Help!
Since our amalgamation of Stormcon, we have added a few new products to the Concast stormwater management portfolio, specifically designed for easy installation, lower maintenance, and reducing footprints. No more hazardous ponds, which can be expensive to maintain and monitor. We have better solutions for you:
Plastic Solutions:
Greenstorm geocellular polypropylene modules minimize system footprints, maximize developable land, and can be installed beneath roads, parking lots, or green spaces.
Stormwater arch chambers can be used for retention or detention systems and can provide ETV Verified quality control within the system.
Concrete Solutions:
StormCrete – Concast’s concrete tank, used independently, or in conjunction with GreenStorm™.
CON/SPAN / Tri-Span – Concast’s precast arch units can be installed in various tank configuration.
Hybrid Solution:
The Vault – a unique hybrid system, leveraging the benefits of GreenStorm™ and StormCrete.
You heard it here first! Concast now manufactures drop structures, saving you time and money in the field!
Why Drop Structures?
Drop structures are required when you have an inlet sewer that is significantly higher than the outlet through a maintenance hole, and you need to bring the flow down to the elevation of the outlet. They can be built in the field; however, they are very costly and labour intensive. Our precast drop structures require no additional time or effort from the customer, keeping your project completion on time.
What are the Benefits?
Saves you time and money in the field
Factory manufactured vs. field manufactured
Controlled environment ensures the highest quality standards are met
Quick and easy to install – simplifies maintenance hole backfilling
Monolithic casts = better quality
What sizes are available?
Our form is capable of the following specifications:
Riser diameter of 1219mm
Monobase height of 914mm and 1219mm
Middle riser and top riser heights of 914mm to 1828mm, in 150mm increments
PVC sizes
150mm Tee and Wye
200mm Tee and Wye
250mmx200mm Wye
250mmx250mm Tee
300mmx250mm Tee
